Collection: Sugarloaf Rock

Sugarloaf Rock rises from the Indian Ocean like a sculptured monolith, its jagged granite form creating one of Western Australia's most iconic coastal scenes. Located near Cape Naturaliste, this dramatic seascape draws photographers from around the world with its raw energy, shifting light, and ever-changing moods. At sunset, the rock glows with deep reds and purples as waves crash against its base, creating the perfect setting for long-exposures. The surrounding cliffs and lookout points offer multiple compositions, from wide angle vistas to intimate studies of texture, colour, and motion. Personally, I prefer to get up close and personal with the rock to seek out that unique perspective and feel the raw energy of the ocean surge.

When the day fades, Sugarloaf Rock transforms again - becoming a prime location for astrophotography thanks to its dark skies and unobstructed horizon. The Milky Way often arcs above the rock in winter, while storm fronts and dramatic cloud formations add intensity. Whether I'm searching for that golden hour glow, the power of the Indian Ocean, or the quiet stillness of night, Sugarloaf Rock delivers a rare blend of drama and serenity.
